Lucky Boat Rentals is a locally owned and operated boat
rental company out of Tempe. Customers pick the lake they wish to boat on, and we meet them at the lake, boat in tow,
at the scheduled time. We are one of the only rental companies that delivery the boats, and pick them up at the end
of the rental time.
During my internship I learned many things about myself
and the business world. With all the first hand experience I received, I was able to overcome any of my public speaking
doubts and nerves. On a daily basis I would be interacting with customers about contracts, insurance, and Arizona boating
laws. Within the first few days I felt more confortable than I ever had before talking to strangers.
Another great accomplishment I encountered was through teaching
new renters how to run the boats. There are several steps to be taken when starting the boat and when driving.
It was a good feeling when the customers became comfortable running the boats alone, without anxiety that they would be stranded
on the lakes.
Through years of education and this experience as an intern
there are several skills I have acquired. I have become responsible and comfortable with promoting and advertising.
When spending a day promoting a product or service it is important to be able to answer any question the potential clients
may have.
Along with advertising come public speaking, another skill
I have come to attain. For example, I have spent countless hours at the lakes in the area with flyers promoting the
boat company. Some days I set the 21 foot pontoon boat up in parking lots and do walk arounds explaining our services.
This intership was my first experience driving large trucks
with boats attatched. I had to learn how to handle the trailers and the boats without being able to see behind me.
At first it was extremely difficult and nerve racking, especially when the clients are watching you, but with practice I was
able to control the trailer. This could help me later in life if I am ever delivering product or setting up a display
and need to bring supplies. I am glad I learned this particular skill.
Since I was in high school back in Pennsylvania I have been
volunteering in classrooms with students who have SMD (severele and multiple disabilities). From this I have learned
so many ways to communicate with others and I have met some of the most interesting and fun people. Students have ranged
from 10 to 21 and I have never been so touched. These students taught me things about myself that I never knew.
They taught me how to be selfless and to never take anything for granted. I am thankful for every single one of the
students and teachers I have met in these classrooms.
